The main form of training highly qualified specialists is Postgraduate and Doctoral studies. The Department of postgraduate and doctoral studies, a structural subdivision of the state higher educational institution 'Uzhhorod National University', works according to the Regulations on scientific-pedagogical and scientific personnel approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine of 01.03.1999, № 309.Postgraduate training profile corresponds to the priorities of scientific activity of the University, and covers all fields of research in which the University trains specialists in accordance with relevant educational and qualification standards. While working out plans for the training of the teaching staff, our structural subdivision tries to meet the demands of the departments for specialists with a PhD or Doctorate degree, taking into account the perspective development of respective areas of study and the existing structure of departments.Admission to postgraduate studies can be free of charge within the parameters of the state order for the training of scientific and pedagogical staff for the needs of the University and other higher educational institutions of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine or can be provided on a commercial basis, in terms of contracts concluded by the University with legal and physical entities.The Department of postgraduate and doctoral studies of Uzhhorod National University was opened in 1953. At present there are 268 PhD students and 330 adjuncts, working on their theses at various departments. Master's or Specialist's degree is required to apply for a PhD programme. The university offers full time (3 year) and part-time (4 year) PhD programmes both free of charge and provided on a commercial basis, in terms of contracts concluded by the University with legal and physical entities. The certificate confirming the PhD exams passed (in case an applicant has already passed them)

Graduates recommended doing a PhD degree by their departments who apply for a free-of-charge PhD programme should present a recommendation from the corresponding faculty/department.The applicant provides his or her passport as well as the copy of the obtained degree in person. Applicants take entrance exams in the speciality they have majored in as well as philosophy and a foreign language. Entrance examinations take place in October, admission is due in November.
